The HeRC Patient & Public Involvement (H@PPI) Forum

Members of the HeRC @ Patient and Public Involvement (H@PPI) Forum

A HeRC PPI Forum of lay experts was successfully established in summer 2014.

Eleven members of the general public were recruited to drive the strategic direction of HeRC and attended a one-day induction on 24th July, which was very well received.

The induction included an overview of the Centre, presented exemplar projects from two of HeRC’s five research themes (Endotype Discovery and Co-produced Health) and outlined the roles and expectations of Forum members.

Attendees met HeRC’s Director Prof Iain Buchan along with members of the Centre’s management and a variety of research staff.  They participated in a number of hands-on activities designed to help the group get to know each other and what we do at the Health eResearch Centre.

The Forum met formally for the first time on 19th September and named themselves the ‘H@PPI (HeRC@PPI) Forum’.

The forum will meet at least quarterly and functions will include reviewing grant proposals, identify patient priorities for research, setting standards for PPI in HeRC projects and monitoring the impact of PPI.
